News in Europe, Europe on News.
The Proximity and Distance

Date: August 28 — 30, 2009
Venue: The Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland

The conference aims to promote an interdisciplinary, comparative,
multi-methodological approach to the study of the news media operating in
Europe and/or reporting about the European issues. The objective is to
contribute to our understanding of a process of selection and a phenomenon of
framing in news media. Europe as a key element of the theme may be considered
as a symbol of integration and diversity. Hence, the participants of the
conference will concentrate on features shared by contemporary news media, as
well as on those that determine a unique cultural character of the journalism
in countries all around the world. Furthermore, the questions about an
audience's reception of the news and the perception of the world covered by
the news media will be raised. In order to do this, the conference brings
together a range of international scholars, drawn from representative
disciplines in the media studies and journalism.
The core part of the conference is a presentation of the results of the study
conducted by a team of scholars from more than 20 countries, introducing
themselves as members of The Foreign News on TV Project. The project was
launched during the ICA Annual Conference in May 2007. It was Prof. Akiba
Cohen from Tel Aviv University who invited scholars from all around the world
